Sleep!

Dearest Sean,
Please be informed that 5:30 am is not an acceptable wake up time on the weekends. With summer break coming soon, I'd like to recommend we get this wake up time worked out before then.

With lots of love,
your Mommy

Fun at the park!

We went to the park right behind our house today for some outdoor play time. After playing on the equipment we took a nature walk through the woods. We were looking for birds, squirrels, and dogs. After a few minutes in the woods Sean says, "forest fun!". Dan and I looked at each other and thought 'did he just say forest?'. I guess he knows what a forest is! Then we headed over to the soccer field to play.
Sean climbed up on this all by "meself" for the first time.
He was always too scared to walk across this alone, until today.
My favorite one!

Fist pound.

We were tip-toe-ing towards the birds so we wouldn't scare them away!

Running away from mommy!!

It has been a while....

This past week was a busy one for me so I have been slacking on the blog. The Rettig house is officially counting down until summer. We have 19 days until summer break. Well a little more for me but 19 until the kids are done. We joined a community pool this summer so we are looking forward to that. I know Sean will love it as well!

My funny story for this morning: Sean was walking around saying, "apple-pus," over and over. I looked at Dan and he had no idea what that meant either. Finally, Sean found the book he was looking for and brought it over. It was an under the ocean type of book. Can you guess what he was saying..........octopus! ha ha I love it.

The others that are my favorite:
1. "scrooberdriber" for screwdriver
2. "auntie-sauras" for achillesaurus (a dinosaur)
3. "fridgeberator" for refrigerator

Sean's 2nd Birthday Party

Sean's birthday party was a success. It was a dinosaur themed party with a dino-egg hunt, a dinosaur dig in the sandbox, and a dinosaur cake. It was a beautful day outside and everyone had a great time! I can't believe he is two already! He is finally mastered responding with, "two" when you ask him how old he is. He also puts up two fingers as well. I think he enjoyed his party and of course he loved all the presents and the cake!!

Me cry....

Sean had a rough morning because his last two teeth were finally popping through. He woke up at 4:40, yes I said, 4:40. Yikes. Well, he proceeded to cry for an hour straight with out calming down despite attempts by Dan to comfort him. Around 6 am he fell back asleep which is of course when Dan and I are waking up for the day. Anyway, at 6:40 Dan had to go in and wake him up so he could eat breakast and get ready to leave. Sean pops up with a huge grin on his face and says while laughing, "daddy, me cry!' Oh geez.

Future gardener?

Sean must have picked up on our love of gardening already. He just said to me, "Me, water plants please?" I guess all those "garden tours" we made him go on sucked him in! We bought a couple new watering cans and since one is just his size he thinks it is actually his. We are still working on actually getting the flower wet rather than just dumping out the water any random place.

On on a side now, he is currently sitting on the floor pulling out his toe jam and saying, "mommy gross, more jam?" and now I hear, "yuck" and "oh man...me dirt". I seriously couldn't make this stuff up if I tried!!

Screw-ber-driver

Dear Sean,

Please continue to use the word "screw-ber-driver" for "screwdriver" forever, because it is quite possibly the cutest thing ever.

Sincerely,
Mommy and Daddy

Mother's Day

Dan, Sean, and I are enjoying our Mother's Day together. We got up and went to church and then headed out to do some shopping and had lunch. When we got home, Sean was so excited to use his new watering can that we spent some time in the garden. You know he is our child when he is excited about watering the flowers and playing in the garden!! He also enjoys smelling the flowers. We can't believe in just a few days he'll be turning 2!

Oh Trap!

This morning Dan pointed out to me that I had accidentally bought a gallon of skim milk instead of whole milk at the grocery store. That means we have too much skim and not enough whole. So, my natural response when he showed me was, "oh crap!". I heard an echo coming from the other side of the kitchen, Sean said, "oh trap!". Oops. We just ignored him and he moved on. ha ha

" 'Mon Mommy, yet's go"

As we are all rushing out the door this morning I hear from the foyer, " 'mon mommy-yet's go" (c'mon mommy, lets go). ha ha He just mimicks what Dan and I say because we both say "C'mon to him often. At night when it is time for bath, he'll say, "mon daddy, upstairs!" It is great that he is able to communicate so effectively. There are rarely times when we don't know what he is trying to tell us.

Oh, and by the way, I am still locked in as the, "best friend". :o)

C-C-C-Tar

Sean has been saying "tar" for the word "car" for a long time now. I asked the speech therapist if that was developmentally normal and of course she said it was. I did notice that at the end of words Sean was producing the c/k sound so I knew he could actually say the sound he just wasn't. I have been encouraging him to try to say "c-c-c-car" and he will reply with, "c-c-c-tar" ha ha. So, I gave up and let it go. From time to time he would do the same thing, "c-c-c-truck" for words that didnt' even start with c which I found to be hilarious. Well, yesterday while playing with his car, he actually said, "cars" for the first time. I still hear him say "tars" sometimes but I guess we are making progress!
