The Beach!

It is officially beach time for us! It is our first (of two) beach trip of the summer. We know Sean loves to play in the sand and loves the beach so we assumed that Carter would too. She isn't usually timid or shy about anything....which is why we were so surprised that she hates the sand! Like cries immediately if sand touches her hates it. Uh oh. She does love to walk around in the water and is fine with sitting on a towel or in your lap. It is the most still you'll ever see her because she is trapped! It is only the first part of the week so maybe she'll get over it? At least she loves the ocean. She'll just walk straight in (she is ok with wet sand just doesn't like the dry sand?!?!?)

She is liking it.....until she falls down!
Not so sure about this. . . .
 Look at her face!
Of course Seany loves the sand! He practically rolled around in it all afternoon!
Having fun on our first day at the beach!

This is all she wanted to do, walk around in the water...sand free!
 A little boogie boarding action!

Grave Digger!

We've driven past the Grave Digger for 10 years but now on the way to Corolla but now we actually have to stop to see the Monster trucks.

Oh right, we had a snake in our house.

I cannot believe I forgot to post about this. It kind of seems unreal that it actually happened. So, it was a regular night at the Rettig house. Dan was outside mowing and Carter had just gone to sleep. Sean and I made our way upstairs around 8:30 and I sent him in the bathroom to go before bed. He walked in the bathroom and stopped in his track as he looked down to see a 2 foot snack just sitting in the middle of our kids bathroom. He and I both just looked at each in shock for a second and then he quickly ran out of the bathroom and then began to convulse. I scooped him up immediately and ran downstairs and outside. When Dan saw us he assumed Sean was having some sort of meltdown. Sean literally was scared to death. We told Dan that there was a snake in our bathroom and so he ran inside to see it and then went back in with a shovel and well you get the picture on what came next. When Sean and I saw it, thankfully it didn't move at all but by the time Dan went back in with the shovel, it was behind the toilet.

We have no idea how it came in the house and made it up that far. Our crawl space is actually a full walk under so it made its way quite far from the ground up. We wonder if it came through the space surrounding the dryer vent? We have no idea. We obviously had an exterminator come the next day and he checked things out and told us it was an Eastern Milk snake which is not poisonous (about 2 feet long) but also not that common here in VA. Who knows where it came from. The "snake" guy laid tracks and closed up any holes below the house to prevent any other slippery friends from joining us in the house. Sean refused to use that bathroom for a few days and even now a week later he sometimes peeks in the downstairs bathroom to make sure it is clear before going in. Going to sleep that night was tough but now it seems like it didn't even happen. I mean who has a snake in their house?!?!?

Backyard playdates

One of the moms in our neighborhood has organized a playdate schedule and we all take turn hosting. There are quite a few preschool aged kids and it is fun to get to see them all. Many of them go to our pool but some do not so we take turns hosting at our house. Today was our turn and it was a great success. The 11 kids had a blast with the slip n slide and crazy sprinkler. What fun!

Slip n slide fun!

Time for snack

We had great weather too!

Crackers

Carter loves graham crackers. Each night after dinner she usually gets one as dessert. As soon as we say, "Cracker" she starts signing please (tummy pat but she does both hands) and says, "Ca ca" It is quite adorable!

Yes, she has two shoved into her mouth. . .

Happy Birthday Gracyn!

Sean and Gracyn have been friends since birth! We were able to help celebrate Gracyn's bday by a little pool fun. Unfortunately, a storm ended our night early but we had fun playing and eating pizza before that.

Dinner time

Oh the lucky second child.

When Sean was 10 months he would never have been allowed to eat ice cream. Lucky Carter, she does!
Sean is enjoying his chocolate ice cream

Hmm...what is that?

I think I'll have my own!

I think she liked her cone!
