Summer school work and S'mores

Sean learned so much in pre-k and we don't want him to lose what he knows over the summer before kindergarten so we put together a big packet of things for him to do this summer (thanks to Dan's students who needed something to do the last week of school!). Sean has work sheets for math, reading activities, and other fun things to do each day. Today he did quite a few math worksheets with simple adding. He did a great job.

After dinner I made s'mores for dessert, in the microwave, and they were a hit. They made a huge mess though! I can see why they are a good outside dessert! They were good though!
I think she likes it!

crazy!

Don't want to leave behind one drop!

We obviously headed straight to bath after this!

Sports Camp

Sean was aprehensive about going to sports camp at Dan's school (Dan coaches with the teacher who runs the camp). It is geared at kids his age and they explore a bunch of sports each day. It sounded like fun so we pushed Sean into going. The first day when I dropped him off I got a huge pouty lip and sad face as I walked out. He was so nervous about going to camp. When I picked him up he seemed like he was having fun and shared about what was the most fun part of camp that day. I am sure the Slurpee I bribed him with helped him hold back the tears as I departed that morning. After being outside in the heat all day he sure did enjoy that slurpee.

The next day he was excited to go to camp and so when I parked the car and walked him to the tennis courts he happily went on. The third day, Dan took him and he told Dan only to walk him halfway up the sidewalk and he could go the rest of the way alone (like the other kids). Today, I just parked and he jumped out of the car telling me not to walk him at all. What a change! He loved going and had a great time!

Most days we went straight to the pool after I picked him up until 2 or 3 and he was so tired he fell asleep on the couch each day. He hasn't taken a nap in a year! He was so worn out but a good worn out!
You can tell he is nervous on Day 1.

Day 4 (last day)

So proud of him!

Getting ready for tennis

He liked tennis!

What a great week!

Saturday Part 2 ~ Grandpa Rettig's Birthday

The main reason we went on our road trip through PA/NY is for Dan's grandpa Rettig's 87th birthday. We all got together at his aunt and uncle's house for a birthday get together. We don't often get everyone together so it was great to see Dan's cousin's and their kids. The second cousins (I think?) had a blast and we think Grandpa enjoyed himself as well.

Saturday part 1

Since we had some free time we decided to explore the local petting zoo that was near Dan's Aunt and Uncle's house (where we were staying). It was a great little zoo and it was free! The kids got to see some of the usual animals but they had a few unexpected animals like a bear, bob cat, eagle. We had a great time exploring the zoo and playing at the nearby playground afterwards.

Carter is a little unsure.

Sean pet the goats right away

ha ha

The eagle had been injured and that is why it was kept at a the zoo

Visiting Great Grandpa Rettig

We were able to spend the day hanging out with Grandpa Rettig at his house for the day. He has a park like backyard and the kids had a great time playing hide and go seek and running around. It was great to see him. He of course was quite entertained by Carter and her energy levels! She doesn't take long to feel comfortable in a new place and make herself right at home with her silliness! Sean warms up more slowly but joined in on the fun as well.
Grandpa wanted to join in on the sunglasses fun!

Cute!

Such a cool girl. . .

Grandpa was able to enjoy the backyard for a bit

Fun with Nana

Where is Carter?!?!

Sesame Place

What a day! We had no idea of what to expect of Sesame Place though a few friends had said it was a great park. When we walked in the kids were both in awe. We figured we would stay until lunch time and head up to NY to avoid the NJ/NYC traffic. Boy were we wrong! We barely made it out of there at 4:45. There was so much to do and the kids enjoyed everything so much. The rides, the water rides, the shows, the characters and lastly the parade to end the day. Our trip to NY was....less than fun....but it was worth it to have a day jam packed with Sesame fun!

Thanks Nana and Poppi for a wonderful day!!
