Snow Day Part 2

This time we really got some snow to play in! It measured about 3 inches at our house which was more than last time and enough to make it fun! It was so dry and powdery, almost like walking through powdered sugar. It also was very pretty and it kind of looked like glitter on the back deck as it was falling last night.

The kids and us got a snow day to be home together so we headed outside to enjoy it. Our neighbors acrossed the street have a very steep driveway and we figured they wouldn't mind if we took advantage of it to do some sledding. Several neighborhood kids came out to join us and we had a blast! They later realized we were playing in their yard and gave us approval :o)

Crafts with Daddy

School was cancelled for the kids but teachers had to work. That meant Dan stayed home with the kids while Mommy went to work (he has more sick days than I do). It looks like they had a good time making marshmellow snowmen, snowflakes and popsicle stick sleds!

Clearly Daddy did Carter's hair. . . or maybe Carter did her own hair?

Snow Day!

The snow finally came and though it wasn't that much we had fun nonetheless! The day started off a little rough when we woke up to no power at 7:30 am. Since the heat is turned down at night it wasn't exactly toasty warm to begin with and as the hours went on it crept down close to 60 in here. We were all bundled in blankets when it came back on at 9:30 am. Whew! It could have been a rough snow day for us! Once we warmed up we got our snow gear on and went outside to play. We would have stayed out longer but the temps with the wind chill were close to or below zero. All of our faces were on fire when we came inside to have some hot cocoa. A fun day for sure!

A No Snow-Snow Day

The meteorologists were predicting quite a bit of snow around mid-day so all the area school districts closed in anticipation of unsafe driving conditions for school dismissal. Well, it turns out the news was wrong because we had no snow until after 4pm. Now, we are not complaining because a day at home with our kids is always fun, snow or not. So, we did some baking, played some uno and had some fun once the snow did arrive (for a few minutes at least!)

Bass Pro Shop

We had the day off a school (holiday) and had nothing to do so we made a trip to Bass Pro Shop. The kids loved all the animals and fish, and of course they loved the fresh fudge!

Carter's new class

After Christmas break when we returned to school one of the owners of Carter's school approached me and told me that they thought that Carter should be moved up to the 3 year old class. They had a couple of new kids enroll in her current class and said she was ready to "hang" with the big kids. Given that she is already younger than most in her class I was surprised to hear this. Since we love the 3 year old teacher Miss Kita and figured they wouldn't put her in a class that was too difficult for her, we agreed. She started on Monday. The first couple days back she said she didn't want to be in Miss Kita's class and she missed her friends in Ms. Cathy's class (we also love Ms. Cathy). I felt sad for her and wondered if we did the right thing, but by the end of the week she was telling me that she "married" Miss Kita....ha ha She is so happy and Miss Kita lights up whens he talks about Carter. When Carter was born Sean was in Miss Kita's class and everyday I would go pick him up and she would just snuggle and love on Carter so much. She has been waiting since THEN to have her in her class. We are so happy that the transition went well and that Carter is happy. She obviously did a great job as she was student of the week this week! She makes Miss Kita smile and laugh as much as she does us. We are so grateful that our children have been loved and nurtured at a wonderful, family centered preschool! We also love that they send us pictures of Carter during the day. :o)

They do Yoga every morning

She is taking her yoga practice seriously . .

Proud of our big girl!

Snow!

We've been pretty desperate for some snow around here and haven't really seen much this winter. We've definitely had lots of cold weather and lots of rain but they never seem to happen at the same time! Even though we still had to go to school we decided to go out to the bus stop a few minutes early to take in some of the white stuff! The kids at the bust stop even made a little snowman. It was not enough to play in but it was enough to make driving to work a little scary. Luckily, I was able to get Carter dropped off and myself to work with no issues at all. By lunchtime, the snow was gone! We would surely love a snow day sometimes soon!

Mommy and Daddy had some fun..80's style that is!

Our close group of friends rarely get the chance to go out (without the kids) and have some good old fashion fun. It takes lots of planning, arranging babysitters, hotel rooms, and this time involved some costume planning but we pulled it off! We went to an 80's cover band concert and all stayed downtown in a hotel room. What a night! We had a blast! We were all horse when we left the concert because we had been singing every word to every song! It was an amazing night with our best friends! Definitely a night to remember for a long time!
Yes, I still claim him :o)

Sick Carter :o(

Sunday, Carter woke up with a horrible croup sounding cough and a runny nose. We took her to the weekend pediatricians office and they gave her some steroids for the cough. Monday, she still had a bad cough but seemed ok but by the evening she was a mess and had a fever. I stayed home with her on Tuesday and she seemed ok but her cough was getting worse so Nana came on Wednesday to stay with her. During the day she seemed fine but at night she was up coughing and coughing for the majority of the night. The doctor checked her on Wed. and her ears and lungs were clear so we thought she was on the mend. But, she wasn't. She sounded horrible, so I was back home again on Thursday and Dan on Friday. She missed almost all week of school. By Thursday, she was complaining of ear pain and so the doctor prescribed some antibiotics and that seemed to help. She even vomited mucous during one of her naps because she was coughing so bad. Poor thing! She had a rough week!
Look at that poor face!

Sean is home! Sharing the ipad...for a minute anyway

oh wait, nope not sharing anymore. . .

these pics pretty much sum it up! ha ha

Brrrr....

We had such cold weather for a few days this week that even school was on a delay (to allow the buses to be started and be ready in such cold temps) Since Sean attends an open campus school, where the door to his classroom opens to the outside, we dressed him in lots of layers. He wore pjs under his flannel sweat pants, a tshirt, shirt, and hoodie, a hat, and gloves. I think he was warm! It was one of those days when I was soo relieved our house is the bus stop. We were able to see the bus coming and send him out without standing outside for too long! We had two days of the cold tempetatures and then it was 60 again! Crazy weather!
