Great Week at the beach!

We packed up and headed home on Sunday from Kure Beach. Sean was very sad to leave and didn't understand why we had to go home when we were having so much fun at the beach, which he referred to as "Nama's Beach House". Highlights from the week included Sean becoming brave and loving the ocean, getting to swim all day long in the nice warm water, visiting the Fort Fisher Aquarium, Dan getting to ride some pretty good waves on his boogie board, and lastly spotting a shark in the shallow water/sand bar area. Yep...it is true. We were all sitting close to the water's edge when Jenn said she thought she saw something in the water. After carefully looking we all saw a shark wading through the sand bar area which was not more than 3 feet deep. We quickly waved everyone out of the water as it started to travel down the beach closer to us. We continued to watch it swim around for a few more minutes and then it disappeared. It was kind of crazy! I (with my awesome shark skills) think it was some type of nurse shark based on the fins and so after doing some research online we think it was a sand tiger shark which is also known as a gray nurse shark. I guess I wouldn't have been as excited to see a shark had Sean and I been in the water swimming. But, luckily, it was our last day on the beach and so our fear of going back into the water didn't make us miss out on too much swimming time. The funny thing is that Sean doesn't really understand that sharks are "bad". He has seen pictures of mommy and daddy swimming with nurse sharks so when I said that the shark was a nurse shark, he said, "hey, lets go swimming with the shark like you and Daddy did" I am glad he didn't have a fear of going back in the water. Lets just hope Dan and I will be brave enough to get in the water in 2 weeks when we head to the OBX for another beach week! We'll see. . .
