We finally got some hot summer pool weather! We had two great days at the pool for one last weekend!

Kindergarten Open House
Sean and Carter came back to Richmond just in time for Sean's K open
house/meet the teacher session. He was super shy and nervous at first.
He cried when he saw me walk up to the school (I met Dan and Sean there
since his school is so close to my school). He was practically attached
to my leg the whole time. Then Mrs. Woods got him to loosen up by taking
his hand and walking to the next class over to meet one of Sean's
neighborhood friends. The classroom is attached by a common door that stays open all day so the two rooms are close together. After that he was bee bopping around the class,
looking at the books, and exploring his new classroom. After we talked
with Mrs. Woods for a few minutes we said, "alright, time to go" and
Sean looked up with sad eyes and said, "ok, bye". He thought it was the
first day of school and we were leaving him there! No wonder he was so
nervous, ha ha. Overall, his first impression of his teacher and his
classroom was positive. I think we are going to have a great year!
Nama and Poppy's House
The kids visited Nama and Poppy for almost a whole week. I obviously don't have any pictures as I wasn't there but there was a lot of fun had! The aquarium/science museum, bonfire, and lots more! The kids had a great time and didn't seem to miss us at all. Since Dan and I were at week we appreciated coming home to a quiet house for our first week back at school. It was great timing for everyone because Carter and Sean got more attention than they would have from two tired teachers coming home for teacher work week. We sure were happy to see their smiling faces on Thursday though!

Finally caught up!
I made all of these this summer! |
Since Carter was born I kind of fell off of making the photo books of the kids each season. In fact, there was not a photo book made with a picture of Carter in it yet in our house. So, my project this summer has been PHOTO BOOKS! I lucked out and had some great coupons and was able to get all caught up. Carter's first year, and each season since then of both of the kids! All my hard work was so worth it because the kids love looking at them!

Potty Training Boot Camp
Dan and I subscribe to the boot camp method of potty training. That just means you put the toddler in underwear and deal with the consequences. It takes about 3 days. The first day was the same for both Sean and Carter~they peed all over the place all day barely making one drop of pee into the potty. With Carter by day 2 she was going a little bit in her underwear and then going to the rest in the potty and by day 3 she was trained! She wasn't having any pee accidents at all! We did use pull ups at night and during nap for a few days. Now, she wears underwear to bed and to nap. She hasn't had any accidents during nap but still struggles at night so we might be going to pull ups at least for a little longer. We've been lucky with both of the kids in fact we are on the same package of pull ups that we had bought for Sean and we have some to spare for Carter. Whew! So glad to be done with diapers in this house!

JMU reunion
Since we were in DC I arranged for a brunch to get some of JMU friends together. We ate a really cool place near where Anne and Drew live and everyone made the drive into the city to meet us. It was great to see some old friends. The kids got along great and we all enjoyed catching up and remembering the good old days! ha ha

Day 3: The ZOO!
Dan and I hadn't visited the zoo since we were kids so we were all excited to go. After a quick bus ride there (the kids also enjoyed that!) we were there. The weather was great and we got to see a lot of cool animals. The elephants were my favorite part. The panda bear exhibit was closed but we could see her from a distance. After a long day of walking around we took a cab home (again the kids enjoyed all forms of city transportation) rested up a bit made some home made ice cream and ate pizza before bed! Another great day in DC!

Day 2: Museum of Natural History, dinner and playtime
After the air space museum we walked over to the museum of natural history. It was so much fun! The air and space museum was great but the museum of natural history was more kid friendly and by that I mean Carter-friendly! She was amazed by the huge displays and all there was to see, including the live butterfly garden. We spent all afternoon there before making the trek back to the metro and then
home. We had a nice dinner out where Dan's Aunt JoAnn joined us and then
had some playtime at the house. Whew! What a day!
