Sean and I made his 100 day t-shirt about a week ago when we had time during a snow day. He has been excited to wear it ever since! He picked up the eyes and the shirt and he designed it himself and glued on each piece. First, he counted them by putting the eyes in 10 piles of 10. He did this with ease. His math skills are developing as quickly as his reading skills. He informed Dan, very matter-of-factly, that there are are two types of clocks-analog and digital. He can tell time on the hour, count by fives and tens to 100 and by 2s to his mid-20's. He is every kindergarten teacher's dream because he is just like a sponge soaking up all the information he is presented with each day. He finds a way to work in Betsy Ross to our nightly discussions and earlier this week told us that March was like a lamb. He meant in like a lion out like a lamb, close enough!

Mommy's Race
I completed a 10K downtown in some lovely weather with close friends. It
wasn't my fastest time, however, I did have a great race and finished
with a smile on my face. I loved seeing these faces at
the finish line!

Back to reality
It is always sad leaving the cabin to head home but this year we made a pit stop at Nana and Poppi's house and got to spend a few hours with them and Alison/Dave and cousin RJ. Then we headed back to Richmond to reality. Back to school tomorrow for a full week of school! We don't know what that is like, With the weather pattern we are in, we've only had 1 full week of school in almost a month! Whew! I guess it would be good to get back into our routine. I heard the weather is warming up and even though we love snow, a few warmer days are welcome.

Snow Tubing
The whole gang either hit up the ski slopes or the snow tubing hill on Saturday morning. (Except of course Carter and Dan-she was just a little too young for tubing this year!) We left the house to a dusting of fresh fallen snow. It continued to snow all morning while we were tubing. It was so much fun! Sean went last year with Dan but this was my first experience and it was a blast! We went down the hill too many times to count!

Cabin Weekend Winter 2014
In normal Rettig tradition we had our annual cabin trip to Massanutten with our close friends. It was a very romantic Valentine's get away-just kidding! It was 10 adults and 10 kids and non stop fun/chaos the whole time. Because we had a snow day on Friday most of us were able to get up there early in the day which left us plenty of time to shovel the 15 inches of snow off the driveway (by us I mean Dan!) so we could drive up to the house and lots of afternoon time to find a nice hill to sled on. Our first day at the cabin was a success.
While Dan shoveled the kids took advantage of the snow! It was sunny and gorgeous out! |
Yay everyone else arrived! |
We had so much fun sledding! |
A great first day at the cabin! Time for PJ's, stories, and bed! |

Homemade Valentines
Sean wanted to make his own Valentines this year for his class. Since we were home due to the snow we had plenty of time to work on them! He made a special Valentine unique to each classmate that he has. He did a great job writing them all out and decorating them. Carter also made her own Valentines for her class. Since school was canceled on Valentines Day they'll be handing them out on Monday, instead.
More snow!

The Circus
We went to the circus with Nama, Poppy and Auntie this weekend and had a great time! Dan and I hadn't been since we were kids and Sean and Carter had never been. They didn't even know what to expect but they were pleasantly surprised. Carter was very nervous at first because the seats were so high but she warmed up and started to really enjoy the show! It was a blast!
After the circus we went to one of our favorite Japanese steak house restaurants for an awesome meal. It was such an exciting day that Sean fell asleep at dinner in Dan's lap! He was exhausted from an action packed day! (It didn't help that he woke up at 5:30 am!)
