Picnic in the backyard
Sean has been begging us to have a picnic for a while so we took advantage of the cooler post storm weather and headed out there for dinner.
Carter enjoyed her grilled cheese!

A storm, no power, and Olive Garden
Monday started out like any other day. The kids and I headed to pool with some friends for a pool playdate. We all had a good time and were worn out so we headed home to take naps. All three of us were sound asleep when Dan came upstairs and woke me up explaining that there was a tornado spotted out in the country in the next county west of here. I woke up and we were glued to the TV. As conditions worsened around the house we saw the winds pick up and the rain start to fall. There was not a whole lot of thunder and lightening but the wind was sooo strong. We started to get nervous. Things were deteriorating by the second out the window and so we decided to wake up the kids and take cover in the downstairs bathroom. It is the only room in the house that has no windows and it is completely interior. The kids were so confused but were good as we sat on a blanket in the bathroom together. I cannot say it was my finest moment of calm and composure. I was scared as I sat there holding them. We've always heard that you'll hear a tornado before you see it and from the sounds of it outside, we were concerned. Luckily, the storm was fast moving one and cleared out pretty quickly. Of course the kids were not going to go back to sleep so we took a walk around the neighborhood to see what damage had occurred. We had lost power about 5 minutes after I woke up and still hadn't gotten it back. The neighborhood looked similar to when the hurricane came through. Debri and branches everywhere and even a huge tree on a house near the entrance. Everyone was ok and the weather was great. We figured that the power would be out for a while and wanted to save as much of the cool from the fridge and freezer so we didn't open either and opted to head to dinner. Well, apparently that was a popular choice because Olive Garden was packed on a Monday night. Lots of people were telling stories about where they were when the storm hit and how scared they were. Apparently, we were not the only ones who took cover in the bathroom. A tornado didn't actually touch down anywhere close to us but by the looks of the damage you could tell the winds were strong. We slept with the windows open and it felt great as the temps were pretty low and were happily surprised to hear the power click on at 6 am. What a day!!
Sean giving his, "I don't want to be taking this picture" face.
Carter excited for dinner!
She ate and ate and ate in true Olive Garden fashion! Luckily the kids were good as we didn't get out of there until 8:30pm!

Nana and Poppi's House
We went to Cville for a quick visit with Nana, Poppi, Alison, and Dave. It was a fun day as usual.
Somehow Sean always manages to win at air hockey?
Carter taking a turn with the crayons
Playing in the old cradle
Obviously she refuses to wear a bow!
The 3 B-day Party Day!
Yes, you read correctly. Our children are apparently very popular as we had 3 invitations for birthday parties on Saturday. Fortunately, the times were scattered and we were able to help all three birthday boys/girls celebrate. The first one was at the children's museum for a friend of Sean's from school. They aren't in the same class anymore but used to be very close. Sean, obviously, had a great time at the museum.
Then, Dan and Sean came home to pick up the girls and we headed to Carter's friend's First birthday party. Carter spent the majority of the time at the water table soaking herself head to tow. She had a great time.
Then, it was off to the last birthday party which for our close friend's daughter who was turning 6. It was a family farm of friends of her parents. It was amazing. This farm had everything children would want to do on a farm, tractor rides, horses, horse rides, playground, animals to feed, a racecar AND a hayride. Needless to say it was a great way to end our busy day!

Dis? Dis? Dis?
This is what we've been hearing for the past two days. At first we thought it was just coincidental but then realized that Carter was in fact saying, "what's this?". She picks up something and looks at us and says, "dis?" and then we tell her what it is. Repeat all day everyday! Tonight she went through the entire movie cabinet and pulled out about 20 movies saying, "dis?" each time. Guess she is going to be a talker like her brother. Each day we are surprised at new sounds/words we hear her say!

What do we do all day?
If you are wondering what two educators off for the summer do...take a peek into one of our days. And you wonder why we look forward to summer all year long!?!?
First, we go to the pool and have fun!
Sean is a great swimmer already and he hasn't even had his swim lessons yet this summer!
(next week)
We pack a lunch and eat at the pool.
After naps we all eat dinner together. Tonight-stir fry chicken, veggies, and rice, yum!
Sean doesn't look super happy about it but he does like it!
Time for dessert...he even shared his fruit bar!
Then it is on to after bathtime shenanigans...this time he is taking Carter (who yes, is completely naked!) on a "boat" ride through the upstairs....
After Carter goes to bed, we head outside to catch some lightening bugs
Got one!
Super proud of his 9-10 lightening bugs
And that is our day! :o)
